The pilot stage of SCL’s digital leadership programme ended in March 2015. The programme, funded by Arts Council England, was a three day course held in public libraries in London and Manchester for a group of seventeen library leaders and next-tier managers. This short film features some of the participants explaining what they learned and how they planned to use their new skills in local libraries.
Working with leadership trainers, they took pressing issues relating to digital technology in libraries, then used these to explore and develop leadership skills and competencies.
Some of those who took part have already gone on to make changes in their services including; working with the NHS to introduce computerised self-help for sufferers of mental illness; changing how they manage and use social media; started setting up new FabLabs and children’s coding-clubs; developing wireless printing for the public; finding new ways to expand WiFi capacity cheaply; and bringing in new software and equipment for users with sensory impairments.
