Joint SCL and ASCEL Statement on Children’s Reading in Libraries
Libraries open up the world of reading for children and encourage and inspire reading from an early age. They offer an enormous range of books which have been selected to excite and delight children, from classics to the very latest stories. Libraries celebrate cultural diversity by giving children the chance to read, explore and understand lives and experiences which are different to theirs. Programmes like the Summer Reading Challenge are helping libraries to grow a new generation of readers and they encourage children to read widely for pleasure and in all areas that interest them.
