Our new draft articles of incorporation for SCL were approved by members at our November AGM, paving the way for our becoming a charity. The role of SCL treasurer was also formally handed over from Simon May to Medi Bernard. We will now be submitting an application to the Charity Commission and will begin the trustee recruitment process in January.
The Executive also earlier approved the establishment of a trustee selection panel to oversee the recruitment of trustees and ensure the transparency of this important process. All members will be eligible to apply to become a trustee.
Following on from the AGM, we began advertising for the Chief Executive role. Please do share this opportunity with your networks so that we reach as many potential candidates as possible. All Regional Chairs have been invited to sit on the recruitment panel with a view to having up to five chairs attending the February interview in London. All Regional Chairs have also received the job details to allow them to feed into the process if they are not able to join the panel. We hope to have the new CEO in post at the beginning of May.
The first draft of the business plan was sent to Arts Council England in October and we are happy to report that their overall feedback was extremely positive. We will now revise this draft and will have the final version completed by the end of January.
Finally, our new annual report 2016-17 is now available and we will be sending out printed copies of the report to every head of service this month. This is an important advocacy tool for the work of SCL and will help our members to promote the importance of our role in developing and supporting library services.
Thank you all for your support over this past year; we have accomplished a huge amount and this is largely due to the dedication and efforts of all our members. Next year promises to be an even more exciting one for us and I look forward to to working with you all during this time.
