Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – 20th Anniversary
26th June 2017 marks the 20th Anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the UK.
For a two week period starting from the anniversary 26th June and finishing on the 9th July Pottermore will make the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone eBook available for an unlimited number of loans by UK libraries to their patrons. Patrons will be able to gain unfettered digital access to Book one from the Harry Potter series in eBook format. The access will be via library distribution apps OverDrive, BorrowBox from Bolinda and Askews & Holts, there will be no limits on loan numbers, allowing simultaneous access for all. This activity will be supported with printed posters and flyers sent into libraries and an extensive digital toolkit created by Pottermore. Librarians will be able to find printable posters and flyers along with a website banner and social media content.
Libraries are being encouraged to take part by displaying posters, handing out flyers, posting on their social channels and websites, participating in competitions and communicating as much as possible to their patrons that these activities are taking place. Posters can be downloaded on this page and via Dropbox.
Library users will be able to celebrate 20 years of Harry Potter by re-reading the magic or discovering it for the first time. Library patrons can partake in the celebrations by joining the conversations on social using #HarryPotter20 or by joining Pottermore’s Wizarding World Book Club which is being launched in celebration of the 20th anniversary.
