In 2014, the Society of Chief Librarians (SCL) commissioned research to uncover the existing Assisted Digital offer made by the Public Library Network to its customers for information and support in accessing Digital sources of information, services and transactions and access online. As more local and central government information and services are shifted online, the public library workforce skills are increasingly needed to help customers navigate their way around the life essential information they seek. One of the most pressing needs is to support the most vulnerable.
The report, based on two major surveys of the experiences of Public Library Services across England, makes a series of recommendations and identifies what difference Public Library Services already make in their localities and looks at the future potential for ensuring good outcomes for individuals in local communities.
